Innovating Engineering Education

The SYSU-CMU Joint Institute of Engineering (JIE) is a partnership between Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Carnegie Mellon University to innovate engineering education. The JIE takes a global approach to providing engineering education at the graduate level, by building upon the strengths of the two universities. Students, pursuing the double-degree option at either the masters or doctoral levels, will have the opportunity to study at both institutions, enabling a rich experience in learning the cultures of China and the United States of America.

Innovating Engineering Education

The JIE is a part of a larger collaboration between three parties: SYSU, Carnegie Mellon and the Shunde People’s Government. Sister institutes of the JIE include the SYSU-CMU International Joint Research Institute (JRI) and the CMU-SYSU Collaborative Innovation Research Center (CIRC). The strength in this three-part approach lies in its comprehensive reach to provide graduate education and encourage high-level academic research alongside technology development with immediate industrial impact.
